Minas Gerais’ dominance in the women’s Superliga continues, but now with other queens. Dentil/Praia Clube defeated Minas Tênis Clube by 3 sets to 0 (25-22, 25-22 and 26-24), this Sunday morning (7) and was once again crowned champion of the competition, after losing to same opponents in the last three decisions. The title is the second for the Uberlândia team in history (the other was in 2017-18), increasing to five the number of consecutive victories by teams from the state in the main volleyball competition in the country. In the final of the 2022-23 season, played in a single game, Praia Clube had a large majority of support from the stands in its favor, as the confrontation was held at the Sabiazinho gym, the team’s home, in Uberlândia. Focused on making the crowd happy, the Praia Clube athletes had a great performance. As much as the duel was defined in three sets, all of them were very disputed, decided by a maximum difference of three points. In the third and final round, after wasting three match points, the home team recovered and Pri Souza finally released the scream that was stuck in his throat, knocking down the opponents who had taken the title from them in the previous three seasons. Praia Clube was the team with the best campaign in the Superliga qualifying phase, but was on the verge of being eliminated in the semifinals, after losing the first game at home to Flamengo and having a match point against in the second duel, in River. However, the team managed to win that tie break, also win the third game of the best-of-three series and advance to the final. Setter Claudinha was elected the best player of the decision. Opposite Kisy, from Minas, was chosen as MVP (most valuable player) of the 2022-23 Superliga. The ideal formation of the championship had, besides her, the spikers Yonkaira Peña (Minas) and Roni Perry (Flamengo), the centers Carol (Praia Clube) and Thaisa (Minas), the setter Brie King (Flamengo) and the libero Nyeme (Minas ), in addition to coach Paulo Coco, champion with Praia Clube. Maiara Basso, winger/opposite player who played for Barueri, was chosen as the revelation of the year.
