The President of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Minister Rosa Weber, granted an injunction to suspend the expansion of the ore exploration area in Serra do Curral, in Minas Gerais. In the injunction, signed on May 5, the minister suspended a decision by the Belo Horizonte Court that authorized the resumption of activities in the region through a Conduct Adjustment Term (TAC). The minister understood that measure is necessary to protect the environment. “The authorization for expansion of the area of mining activity fulminates, as said, the preventive purpose of the measures taken, at the state level, for the preservation of the cultural asset as it exists in its natural state, or the closest thing to it at the time of inspection”, wrote the president. The case involves the mining company Gute Sicht, which operated in the region through the TAC with the state secretary of the Environment. Last year, the term was revoked by the secretariat on the charge of devastation of a protected environmental area. Agência Brasil was unable to contact the company.
