The Federal Public Ministry (MPF), in São Paulo, demanded, this Tuesday (9), information from the messaging application Telegram Brasil about the mass shooting of messages made by the platform to its users in the country, this Tuesday afternoon. fair. The published text is contrary to the approval of Bill 2630/2020, the Fake News PL, which proposes measures to combat the dissemination of false content and digital violence. In the message fired, Telegram Brasil claims that the bill represents “an attack on democracy”. According to the platform, the PL “grant censorship powers” to the federal government and create a permanent surveillance system that “will kill the modern Internet”, if the PL is approved by the National Congress. Telegram still threatens that if the PL passes with the current wording, in the National Congress, “companies like Telegram may have to stop providing services in Brazil”. In the letter sent to the digital platform, the MPF questioned whether big tech has a channel for contestation by those users who disagree with the network’s positioning. The MPF-SP also asked whether the company describes to consumers, in the terms of use of the application, an authorization to boost messages not related to technical updates or communications about application features. The body asks why the shooting was carried out to all users of the platform, and not just those subscribed to the Telegram Notifications channel. The letter was signed by the Public Prosecutor, Yuri Corrêa Luz, from the Regional Public Prosecutor’s Office for Citizens’ Rights in São Paulo, from the MPF. Telegram Brasil will have a period of 10 days to respond to questions from the MPF-SP.
