The National Institute of Social Security (INSS) will expedite the analysis of about 45,000 requests for maternity pay requested more than 30 days ago. The task force aims to reduce the amount of benefits under analysis for more than one month, by the body. The action called Maes (Mobilization of Special Analysis of Maternity Salary) is part of the National Social Security Week, held between May 15th and 19th, by the Ministry of Social Security. About 5,000 public servants are mobilized to work on the mobilization. The Social Security Appeals Council (CRPS) will also participate in the task force and estimates it will analyze 6,000 benefit application processes. Maternity salary The benefit is granted by the INSS to people who need to be absent from work due to the birth of a child, miscarriage and adoption or legal custody for the purpose of adopting a child up to 8 years old. In cases of adoption, men can also apply for the benefit. In order to receive the maternity salary, the citizen must have made at least ten monthly contributions to Social Security, individually – when working as a self-employed person – or optionally. If the insured person is employed with a formal contract or is part of a private pension plan, no waiting period will be required. In this case, the employee’s maternity salary must be paid directly by the contracting company. For special insured persons, under the family economy regime, it is necessary to prove the exercise of rural activity in the 12 months prior to the beginning of the maternity salary. Online application It is not necessary to go to an INSS agency to apply for maternity pay. The application must be made online, on the Meu INSS website. [https://meu.inss.gov.br ]. Internet users will be able to follow the progress of the request online and receive the response of the process as well, on the same website (My INSS), by clicking on the button “Check Requests”.
