The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) in Roraima asked federal government agencies for information about the removal of miners from the Yanomami Indigenous Land. In a letter sent this Monday (15) to the bodies, the MPF also requires information on the reopening of health care posts and the logistical actions that are being carried out in five months of the removal operation. In the understanding of the Public Prosecutor Alisson Marugal, “despite the success of the operation” to prevent mining activities in the region of the indigenous land, prospectors still exist in isolated areas, a fact that has caused violence against indigenous communities. Earlier this month, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, said that, although most mining sites have already been deactivated, satellite monitoring still identifies illegal mining activity in the Yanomami Indigenous Land. According to the minister, 75% to 80% of the prospectors who occupied the region have already left the area. The Ministries of Defence, Environment and Indigenous Peoples are involved in the operation, in addition to the Federal Police and the Federal Highway Police (PRF).
