The Senate approved this Tuesday (16) the PEC 162/2019, which authorizes the exchange between state judges from different courts. The text goes on to be enacted by the National Congress. The proposal was approved in two rounds, with 67 votes in favor, in both votes, and no votes against or abstention. According to the rapporteur, senator Weverton (PDT-MA), the exchange “will promote the productivity of judges of law, since it will reduce the chances of requests for removals and will contribute for the population of each state to have magistrates knowledgeable of the peculiarities In addition, the PEC strengthens the principle of the unity of the Judiciary and the national character of this Power”. The exchange may occur between judges who act in the same segment linked to different courts, including those of the second degree, at the state, federal or labor levels. The consent of the judges involved is required. Currently, only federal and labor judges can make this switch. State judges are authorized to change districts within the same court of law, but they need to pass a public tender if they want to work in another state. * With information from the Senate Agency
