The last group of athletes who represented the country in the last edition of the Youth Parapan American Games, held in Bogotá (Colombia) from June 3 to 12, arrived in Brazil this Wednesday (14). The Brazilian delegation ended the competition in 4th place in the overall ranking, having won 52 medals (30 gold, 13 silver and nine bronze). According to the president of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB), Mizael Conrado, Brazil’s participation in the Youth Parapan was another well-completed stage in the entity’s strategic planning: “Once again our athletes made us proud and we showed that we are the country of all the modalities. I would also like to congratulate and thank all the technicians, the multidisciplinary team and, especially, the presidents of the confederations who were part of these achievements. This is just the beginning of these young people’s sporting lives. We will be even stronger in Paralympic sport in the coming years.” The Youth Parapan will be missed! 🥹💛Then check out 5⃣ facts that marked the Brazilian participation in the Bogotá Youth Parapan 2023: https://t.co/RAJNiYjSmF pic.twitter.com/1jzJaBEc5N — Brazilian Paralympic Committee (@cpboficial) June 13, 2023 Between sports in which Brazil competed, weightlifting was the one that most assured the country of medals: eight golds, four silvers and three bronzes. In total, the Brazilian delegation sought achievements in ten sports: wheelchair basketball, bowls, football for the blind, football for people with cerebral palsy, goalball, weightlifting, judo, table tennis, wheelchair tennis and sitting volleyball. The country did not send representatives to the athletics and swimming competitions. A striking fact of the Brazilian campaign in Bogotá was Brazil’s 500th medal in the history of the Youth Parapan American Games. She came on June 7th with the men’s wheelchair tennis duo formed by Luiz Augusto Calixto and Lorenzo Godoy. They secured a silver after being beaten by the Argentines Benjamín Silvetti and Gonzalo Enrique Lazarte in the modality’s decision. “I am very honored to help this brand that is so important for Brazil. I expected the gold medal, but I’m happy for winning the silver”, said Lorenzo, 24th in the junior world ranking.
