The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, met today (19) with the mayor of the city of Niterói, Axel Grael, for the signing of a cooperation agreement by the Integrated Center for Public Security (Cisp) in the fight against crime and prevention of violence. The announcement will serve 163 priority cities of the National Program for Public Security with Citizenship (Pronasci), in the amount of R$ 30 million, for cultural projects aimed at reducing and preventing violence. Earlier, Flávio Dino was at the Guanabara Palace, with Governor Cláudio Castro and signed agreements in the area of public security. Among them, the transfer of resources for the construction of two prisons in the state. In Niterói, the minister highlighted the choice of the city as the place for signing the document. “Our objective at this event is to emphasize the preventive dimension of the security policy, as we signed a public notice for the 163 priority cities of our national security policy, a group of which Niterói is a part. We also signed a partnership that was requested by the municipal government, with the Federal Highway Police, so that we can, with this, improve the integration of the Municipal Guard with the Federal Highway Police, with the exchange of information, technology and, with this, integrate the actions. This is a visit that shows the importance that the city of Niterói has for Rio de Janeiro and for Brazil”, explained Dino. The mayor of Niterói said that the agreement will bring important results in the area of public security for the city. “Today we signed with the minister two messages that were forwarded to the Chamber [de Vereadores] to renew the program for the prevention and recovery of weapons seized in situations where there is no victim and the other for the collection and purchase of weapons that are delivered to the city hall. These are important measures for us to advance in the public safety agenda in the city”, said Axel Grael. The ceremony also included the mission order to start the operation of the Federal Highway Police in the fight against cargo theft in the state of Rio de Janeiro, especially on the Rio-Niterói bridge, which connects Rio de Janeiro to the cities of the Lagos Region. “This partnership is fundamental, in which we will have access to important information, produced by the Federal Highway Police equipment on the Rio-Niterói Bridge and on all accesses to the city of Niterói. Every time we work in partnership, we have positive results. This relationship is fundamental”, highlighted Grael The executive secretary of Niterói City Hall, Rodrigo Neves, informed that the security policy that has been implemented in the municipality in the last 10 years has reduced the violence rates in the region. “Niterói is the only city in the metropolitan region of the State of Rio de Janeiro that does not have militias dominating neighborhoods and territories, even though it suffered from violence at the time of the implementation of the Pacifying Police Units (UPP), in Rio, with the migration of criminals here. This result is not the work of chance and is due to a set of strategies that we have put into practice in recent years through the Pacto Niterói Contra a Violência plan, which has Pronasci as a reference. This agreement is a milestone for us to move forward even more”, evaluated Neves. The Ministry of Justice also announced a partnership with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and the Federal Fluminense University (UFF) for research with a contribution of R$ 1 million, for the production of material to prevent violence and elucidate cases that occurred with violence.
