Yago Dora, Samuel Pupo and Jadson André ensured their presence in the quarterfinals of the Rio stage of the World Surfing Circuit, which is being played at Itaúna beach, in Saquarema. The three Brazilians secured the classification after completing a great journey this Friday (30), with emphasis on Samuel Pupo and Jadson André, who, despite acting as guests, left behind four surfers who are in the top-5 of the world ranking. The sad note of the day was Filipe Toledo’s injury. After risking an aerial in the final stretch of the confrontation with Jadson André, in the round of 16, the board hit Filipinho’s knee, who had to leave the sea loaded. However, an MRI scan found it to be nothing serious. Facing Jadson André, Filipe Toledo also saw the possibility of maintaining hegemony in Saquarema end. Filipinho is the current consecutive champion of the Brazilian stage, in which he has not lost a heat since 2017. “Today was really a very special day for me. I wasn’t even in the championship, but a vacancy came up because I was the second best Brazilian in the Challenger Series. Compete twice, on the same day, against the current number 1 [o norte-americano Griffin Colapinto, na segunda fase] and number 2 in the world [Filipe Toledo] and end up winning, it really is a day that will go down in my history. I’m happy with this moment and now it’s time to rest, clear my head, because tomorrow is a new day”, declared Jadson André to the press office of the World Surfing League (WSL). In the women’s dispute, Brazil was left without representatives after Tatiana Weston-Webb was defeated by Californian Caitlin Simmers in the repechage. The other representative of Brazil in the competition, Silvana Lima, fell in the first stage. The final stage of the Brazilian stage will be played next Saturday (1st). The first call will be at 6:25 am (Brasília time) on Itaúna beach.
