The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) clarified this Tuesday (18) a request made to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) for access to the identification data of former President Jair Bolsonaro’s followers on social networks. On Monday (17), deputy prosecutor Carlos Frederico Santos requested the measure from Minister Alexandre de Moraes to investigate possible Bolsonaro manifestations in favor of the coup acts of January 8. In a note released to the press, the attorney general’s office states that access to follower information will only serve to measure the reach of posts. “The agency clarifies that these people are not being investigated nor will their data be exposed. The purpose of the request is to obtain information that allows assessing the content and the dimension reached by the former president’s publications in relation to the events that occurred on January 8 on social networks”, wrote the agency. The deputy prosecutor also reiterated that the investigation only involves former President Bolsonaro. Santos recalled that among his followers there are people who follow Bolsonaro’s social networks because they are admirers, out of curiosity or professional motivation. “It is imperative to measure the impact of publications and their reach. I would never investigate millions of people, it would even be impossible to do that”, he concluded. Bolsonaro was included in the investigation after publishing, on January 10, a video that questioned the legitimacy of the result of the 2022 elections.
