The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, said today (16th), in a press conference, that the Federal Police (PF) must submit a request to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) by Friday (17th) to find out whether the The corporation will act in the investigation of military personnel suspected of involvement in the coup acts of January 8th. The PF wants to know if the conduct of members of the Armed Forces will be investigated exclusively by the Military Justice or by the STF. If the investigations are under the responsibility of the Supreme Court, this would imply the action of the federal police. “We’ll submit this by tomorrow, I believe. We are going to make a request for a definitive clarification on the situation of the military, if there will be an exclusive investigation in the Military Justice or if a part or all of the crimes, eventually, committed by the military will be in the Supreme”, said the minister. The rapporteur for the cases involving the January 8 attacks is Minister Alexandre de Moraes. Dino informed that, so far, 85 investigations have been opened by the Federal Police on anti-democratic acts and 36 authorized preventive arrests, 24 of which have been carried out. The STF granted 58 search and seizure warrants, with 54 already executed by the federal police. “New arrests are being requested every week and there is no deadline for the closure of these steps, because the investigations are ongoing. These numbers for rendering accounts are fundamental in the sense that the issue of January 8th will continue for months and perhaps years. One thing is the political agenda of January 8, another is the judicial agenda”, added the minister.
