Minister Rogerio Schietti, of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), ordered the release of model Bruno Krupp, arrested for running over and killing teenager João Gabriel. The case occurred in August last year in Rio de Janeiro. The decision was signed yesterday (27). Bruno has already left the Bangu 8 prison, in the Rio de Janeiro capital. The accident took place on Avenida Lúcio Costa, in Barra da Tijuca, where the permitted speed is 60 kilometers per hour (km/h). In a statement given to Justice, Krupp admitted that he drove his motorcycle at more than 100 km/h. In the decision, the minister accepted a habeas corpus filed by the defense of the model to replace pre-trial detention with precautionary measures other than prison, such as the use of an electronic anklet, periodic appearances in court, prohibition of leaving Rio without judicial authorization, in addition to the suspension of right to drive. “Despite the accentuated gravity of the consequences of the fact – which resulted in the death of a teenager –, there is no indication of the agent’s dangerousness to justify the most serious measure. I emphasize that this is a traffic offense”, decided the minister. Bruno’s defense argued that the model did not commit the hit-and-run on purpose, he was sober, he was also injured in the accident and he was concerned about the victim’s condition.
